Tim Marshall

Prisoners of Geography

This book seeks to explain the influence of physical geography on the politics of the world. Marshall argues that without taking this into account you never really have the full picture of a given situation. The book is split into 10 chapters focusing on different parts of the world and how their history, present and future is shaped by their geography.

The explanations in this book are really well written and highlights how impactful physical geography is on the progress of a country. Marshall is able to coherently explain the influence of geography on world history and makes predictions about how these may play out in the future.

I’d recommend if you’re interested in having a light shone on your understanding of the world.
