Reflection

Loraine James

I’m very gassed to be able to finally listen to this album and I’m very happy to say that it doesn’t disappoint. It also has some of the best album artwork I’ve seen in a very long time. Reflection is an exploration through Loraine’s mind over the past year. Navigating lockdown has been a challenge for us all and Loraine has translated this into a stunning piece of work exploring her own troubles in a time like no other.

This is her second album released  on Hyperdub. It’s described as ‘a turbulent expression of inner-space, laid out in unflinching honesty, that offers gentle empathy and bitter-sweet hope’. I feel like that is sort of a perfect description. It offers so much with each track feeling like an exploration in itself with so many different influences from drill, R&B and so much more. The features are also incredible and reading into the lyrics on some of the tracks allows you to explore her thoughts from an interesting perspective, shedding light onto her feelings over the past year. It’s difficult to describe the tracks, they're just all you could ever want and more.

Reflection is an incredible album and I feel as though it’s only going to get better and better the more I listen. It feels so intimate and expansive allowing you to get so immersed, such an insane artist!!
