Arthur C. Clarke
2001: A Space Odyssey
This is the first in the Odyssey series by Arthur C. Clarke. This
was probably my favourite out of the four novels however I did quite like 3001:
The Final Odyssey. The other two books I found a bit of a drag. This one
however sets the scene and was done in conjunction with the 1968 film of the
same name.
The book explores themes of technology, nuclear war, evolution, space exploration, AI and more. The themes are explored effortlessly across the story and I feel like a lot more effort was put into this book than the subsequent ones.
I’d recommend the read, it’s a classic and hard not to enjoy just a little bit. I also feel that I got the name Midnight On Jupiter from one of the Space Odyssey books.
